FOR RELEASE JANUARY 10TH, 2008
The Glen Ridge Antiques Show is proud of its past
The Glen Ridge Antiques Show opens its historic 62nd Antiques Show on Thursday, January 31st, 2008, at the Congregational Church, 195 Ridgewood Avenue, Glen Ridge, beginning with a special Preview Reception from 6:30 to 9:00pm planned to thank the show's advertisers and sponsors. The profits from the Reception will benefit M.E.N.D. (Meeting Emergency Needs with Dignity), a network of food pantries based in our Essex County. Thursday evening's sneak preview is $12 per person and the general public is encouraged to attend and support the fundraising for MEND; ample complimentary hors d'oeuvres will be served.
The 62nd Annual Glen Ridge Antiques Show - the oldest in Essex County - features 28 dealers from 4 states exhibiting country and formal furniture and accessories, as well as botanical prints, silver, pottery, jewelry, fine porcelain, vintage tiles, Victoriana and more. Over 150 church volunteers work many months to make this time-honored show thrive; their commitment to helping local agencies make this show one of the highlights of the Essex County winter season of events. The regular show hours continue on Friday, February 1st, from 10:00am to 9:00pm, and Saturday, February 2nd, from 10:00am to 4:00pm. APPRAISAL SERVICE on portable items or via photos will be offered by John Clark of Manahawkin, NJ. Mr. Clark will be in the Main Room on Friday, from 2 to 5, and on Saturday, from 1 to 4. The fee for appraisals is $3 per item. This appraisal opportunity pursues the popular interest in discovering the history, age and value of an individual's "antique". In most cases the appraiser can answer questions or unravel a mystery about an item's unique use; occasionally he must deliver the news that the item is NOT an antique. This service, offered in convenient and friendly surroundings, has always proved valuable to patrons of the show and it's own neighborhood 'roadshow'.
The show's healthful and gourmet kitchen will come alive with delicious fare for the Reception on Thursday evening ($12/person), for lunches on Friday and Saturday and for dinner on Friday night (two seatings). Members offer fine baked goods in the Pantry Corner on Friday and Saturday. Call 973-743-5596 for info or Saturday reservations. The entrance to the show on Friday and Saturday is $7, or $5 for Srs. One entrance to the show entitles a patron to entrance on all three days of the show. This is an important fundraising project and a true bargain as well. It's a chance to call friends and rally around. Our fine dealers are counting on you, too.
The show is reached at the Chapel door on Clark Street, with on street parking available. It is sponsored by the Women's Association and chaired by Ellen Auborn, Dealer Manager; Norma Batastini and Barbara Stevens, Business Managers; and Kevin Curtin, Treasurer. The Glen Ridge Antiques Show is indeed proud of its past and once again invites neighbors and friends to support its future ability to reach out to local agencies in need. Your support of this goal is crucial: the rewards are generous.
